CR Law (Cooper Rapley Lawyers) (CR Law, our, we, us) is committed to protecting your privacy in
accordance with applicable New Zealand privacy laws.


The purpose of this privacy policy is to explain how we may collect, store, use and disclose any
personal information that you provide to us in accordance with the provisions of and the principles
set out in the Privacy Act 2020.

Personal information

Personal information is information about an identifiable individual and includes an individual’s
name, address, email address, and telephone numbers. We may collect information about you
whenever you or the entity you are representing interact with us, for example when you visit our
website or if you instruct us to provide legal services.
The information we collect and hold may include any of the following:

  • information to enable us to verify your identity;

  • information to enable us to comply with our obligations under anti-money laundering and

  • countering financing of terrorism laws;

  • your contact information;

  • your job title and employer;

  • any interactions you have with us (this includes date and time of contact, and relevant emails

  • and documents);

  • other personal information we require from, or about, you to provide the advice that has

  • been requested. This may be in the context of advice you have asked for, or that a third party

  • has asked for (for example, your employer, if we are acting for your employer).


CR Law may store personal information collected in any format and at any of our offices. CR Law may
also outsource its data storage to an independent service contractor.

Use of Personal Information

Personal information we collect and hold may be used:

  • to provide legal services;

  • to reply to your queries;

  • to verify your identity or perform client due diligence;

  • for dealing with conflicts;

  • to comply with our legal obligations (such as under anti-money laundering and countering

  • finance of terrorism laws);

  • for specific events or purposes we inform you about and you authorise, including invitations

  • to functions or seminars; or

  • for internal business purposes such as invoicing and receipting, making payments to you or on

  • your behalf and debt recovery (which may involve disclosing information to debt collectors).

Disclosures

We may need to disclose personal information to third parties (including other entities or individuals
who assist us in providing services or who perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting and data
storage providers), including in the course of providing legal services.


We will disclose personal information if it is required by law (including the laws of any foreign
jurisdiction) or by the Law Society’s Rules of Professional Conduct, or if authorised by you or the
entity you are representing. This includes disclosure to courts or tribunals, or regulatory or
government agencies.

Access to information

You have the right to access, and to request correction of, your personal information. If you have

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy from time to time. Any change we make applies
from the date the updated privacy policy is posted on our website.
